If you're wondering about whether it's a good idea to get a polytunnel and what's involved in setting one up and managing it this is the course for you...

VENUE: Perth Community Farm
Lots of things, tomatoes, cucumbers, aubergines etc etc like plenty of heat. With a bit of planning you can have stuff growing all year round - not bad for Scotland...

WHAT DOES THE COURSE COVER?

  • DIFFERENT CONSTRUCTION methods and features - there's four different ones for you to see
  • USES: growing stuff, extending your growing season and range of stuff you can grow, and lots of other potential for these spaces too
  • SETTING UP AND MANAGEMENT: layout, keeping on top of weeds, paths, edges, different kinds of bed, on-going maintenance, common problems, time commitment
  • ...and please ask lots of questions about your own ideas...

The open area of our main tunnel makes an excellent space for teaching woodwork etc...

...also for events like Seedsavers meetings...

...and as a workshop, we're making the trusses for our polytunnel porch here.

USEFUL LINKS

Our large tunnel was supplied by FIRST POLYTUNNELS
Polycarbonate is a much stronger alternative to a polythene shell - available from WESTERN ISLES POLYCARBONATE TUNNELS
