Empty shelves, rationing. It does make me think of World War II a bit... though the rationing was actually harder in the period just after the war, when my parents met. My elder brother was born in 1947 and I was born in 1953. We had a huge vegetable garden all the time us kids were growing up. Strawberries, raspberries, fresh raw peas etc etc have never tasted so good. Maybe the time has come to get digging again...

I'm delighted to say that some stuff is really easy to grow, and we have been getting a range of courses together to help people make those vital first few steps, then find out a bit more about more specialised things. We've had a really good response to courses on Basic Gardening, Compost Making, Polytunnel Gardening and Fruit Tree Pruning.
